things fall apart//
“it's not difficult to identify with somebody like yourself, somebody next door who looks like you. What's more difficult is to identify with someone you don't see, who's very far away, who's a different color, who eats a different kind of food. When you begin to do that then literature is really performing its wonders.”
I definitely agree with Chinua’s explanation of the effectivity of literature. Literature is basically one of our main source of knowledge. We learn stuff based on what we read and see. Literature expands our knowledge and idea about the world we live in. It’s easier for us to know about the things which we’re able to see and experience ourselves because we get to pick things up whilst we’re seeing them or doing it. However, not because we can’t experience some other stuff ourselves, doesn’t mean we don’t have any chances on understanding them. We may not be able to interact with the people from the other side of the world and we may not be able to experience their culture but it doesn’t mean that we should deprive ourselves from having to understand these. It’s our job to use literature as our way of understanding these things more.
